How to Make an eBay Account

For years, eBay has been one of the biggest sites on the Internet. It started out in 1995 and was originally called AuctionWeb. Since then, millions of people have enjoyed selling and bidding on items on eBay. If you're lucky, you can get some great deals or find unique items. Selling on eBay is a great way to make a little extra cash and get rid of things you no longer need or use. All you need to get started is an eBay account. It is free to become a member of eBay and registration is simple.

Instructions

  1. Open a Web browser and navigate to eBay's homepage at ebay.com. Click on the link that says "Register" at the top of the page.
  2. Type in your name, address and other personal information. Enter the e-mail address you currently use so that you can receive communications from eBay and retrieve your password.
  3. Choose a user ID and a password and type those into their respective boxes. A user ID can contain a combination of letters and numbers, but not spaces or the following symbols: ( ) < > & @. It also cannot contain profanity, an e-mail address or a Web address. The user ID can be the name of your business, your name or something that defines you. When choosing a password, make sure it's something unique that others won't guess. Write the password down and keep it in a safe place
  4. Choose a secret question and key in the answer. This question will be used if you ever forget your password.
  5. Select your date of birth. To be an eBay member, you must be at least 18 years old.
  6. Read the User Agreement and Privacy Policy and select "Agree." A confirmation e-mail will be sent to the e-mail address you used to register.
  7. Open the confirmation e-mail and click on "Activate Now." Your account will now be active.
